American Elections: The Beginning

voteSince the birth of the American nation and the advent of our democracy, it is “we the people” who decide who will rule over us. In our nation, an impeccable birth and heredity is just not enough. Neither is a bank full of cash. We decided that royalty wasn’t “our cup of tea” when we steeped POUNDS of it in the Boston Harbor all of those years ago.  From then on, voting and elections are the alternatives we’ve chosen. And though “our guy” isn’t always the winner, with democratic elections, we all win!

That said, understanding how the American election process works can be a little confusing, perhaps even overwhelming. However, democracy is easier to decipher than you think – especially when you have access to all the right information.

When there are issues that you feel passionately about (abortion, taxes, gay rights, immigration, etc.) it’s only natural that you should go straight to the source and wield your voice with the folks who have been elected to put your political desires in place.

While Federal and other executive-level elected and appointed officials always seem to steal the limelight, when it comes to insuring that your individual voice gets heard, you should start at the state and local levels. If there are bills being voted on, budget cuts being proposed or things that you think aren’t getting the attention they deserve, the best strategy is to start small and work your way up…

Admittedly, the process can be long and frustrating, but with the proper game plan in place, you can greatly streamline and simplify the process.
